About the Organisation

The Government of Telangana, in exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section (1) of Section 21 of the Protection of the Human Rights Act (Central Act No.10 of 1994), issued orders in G.O.Ms.No.48 General Administration (HRC) Department dated 19.11.2019 notifying Constitution of ‘Telangana State Human Rights Commission’ for the undivided State of Andhra Pradesh in place of A.P. State Human Rights Commission constituted in the year 2005 for implementation of the requirements laid down by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in D.K. Basu Vs. State of West Bengal, vide G.O.Ms.No.282, Home (HRC) Department dated 17.09.2002, to exercise the powers conferred and to perform the functions assigned to a State Commission under Chapter V of the Act. The Government of Telangana vide G.O.Ms.No.56 General Administration (HRC) Department dated 19.11.2019 ordered that the Telangana State Human Rights Committee shall continue and shall cease to exist with effect from the date on which the Chairperson of Telangana State Human Rights Commission assumes Office. Subsequently, vide G.O.Ms.No.355 General Administration (HRC) Department dated 23.12.2019, the State Government constituted the body of Commission presided over by Hon’ble Sri Justice G. Chandraiah, former Justice of High Court for the states Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as Chairperson of the Commission and Hon’ble Sri Justice N Ananda Rao, as a Member (J), former District and Sessions Judge and Hon’ble Sri Mohammed Irfan Moinuddin as Member (NJ) of the Commission and commenced its functioning from 23.12.2019 and they relinquished the office of the Commission on 22.12.2022 on attaining their superannuation.
